A new business begins with blessings
Opening a new shop, showroom, clinic or office is a proud moment for any family. In Gujarat and North India, the opening is almost always done on a shubh muhurat, often on days like Dhanteras, Labh Pancham, Akshaya Tritiya, Vijayadashami or any date suggested by the family priest. The day usually starts with a Ganesh and Lakshmi puja, sometimes a Satyanarayan katha or a havan, followed by the ribbon cutting and the first sale, called the bohni in many families.
An invitation card for the opening does two things. It invites relatives and friends to share the joy, and it also serves as the first announcement of your business to potential customers. So the card should be both auspicious and clear.
What to include
- A blessing line, such as "|| Shree Ganeshaya Namah ||" or "|| Shubh Labh ||".
- Business name in full, exactly as on the signboard.
- Type of business, if helpful, like "Jewellers", "Mobile Store" or "Dental Clinic".
- Date and muhurat time of the opening and puja.
- Full address with a landmark.
- Owner or proprietor names, and the family.
- A note about the chief guest, opening offers or a contact number.
Traditional versus modern wording
Traditional
"With the blessings of Lord Ganesh and Maa Lakshmi, we are starting our new venture. We cordially invite you to the muhurat and opening ceremony and request your good wishes." This suits relatives, elders and long-time business contacts.
Modern
"Something new is opening in town! Join us for the grand launch and be among our very first customers." This works well for friends, social media and customers.
Sample format
|| Shubh Labh ||
Grand Opening. Shree Krishna Jewellers. Muhurat on Monday, 9 November 2026 (Dhanteras) at 10:30 AM. Address: Shop No. 5, Ratnam Complex, C.G. Road, Ahmedabad. With best compliments from Shri Bharat Soni and family.
When to send and reminders
Send the invitation to relatives and close friends about one week before the opening. For customers and the wider public, share the card and a short message a few days before, and again on the day with the time and location. A reminder message on the morning of the opening is helpful. After the event, a thank-you message to everyone who came, with a photo of the opening, helps build goodwill for your business.
Etiquette and practical tips
Invite your neighbouring shopkeepers and building members. Their goodwill matters a lot in the long run. If you have a chief guest, confirm with them before printing their name. Mention if sweets or refreshments will be served. Keep the business name spelling consistent with your signboard and GST documents. Avoid overcrowding the card with too many offers; one clear line is enough.
If the puja is only for family and the public opening is later in the day, make two versions of the card with the right timings. For offices, you can mention "Office warming" or "Inauguration" instead of "Grand Opening".
Common mistakes to avoid
- Different name spellings: the card, signboard and social media should all use the same spelling.
- No landmark: new shops are hard to find. Add a landmark and send a location pin.
- Unconfirmed chief guest: never print a name before they have agreed to come.
- Too many offers: one clear offer line is better than a crowded card.
A message to send along with the card
For relatives: "Jai Shri Krishna Kaka, with the blessings of the family, I am opening my jewellery shop on Dhanteras. Muhurat is at 10:30 AM. Please come and do the first bohni for me. Card attached." For customers: "Shree Krishna Jewellers opens on Dhanteras at C.G. Road. Visit us for special opening offers!" More messages are in the list below.
After the opening
The days after the opening are important for any new business. Share photos of the puja and the ribbon cutting with a thank-you message, and save the numbers of guests who came. A short festive greeting from your shop on Diwali or New Year keeps you in their minds. You can make such greeting cards on this site as well, with your shop name printed on them.
If the opening falls near a festival, you can mention it on the card, for example "On the auspicious occasion of Labh Pancham". It adds warmth and makes the date easy to remember.
For an office, clinic or factory, the same card works well for a small inauguration. Invite your staff, suppliers and a few old clients along with the family, and keep the tone a little more formal. A simple line such as "We look forward to your continued support" is appreciated by business contacts.
How to make the card on this site
- Enter the shop or office name.
- Add the date and muhurat time.
- Type the full address with landmark as the venue.
- Add the owner or family names.
- Pick an invitation line or write your own.
- Use the note for chief guest, offers or contact number, then download and share.
We wish your new venture shubh labh, growth and success.
