The story of the goddess
Siddhidatri means the one who grants siddhis, or spiritual powers. It is believed that even Lord Shiva gained his powers through her grace, and that half of his body became hers, giving him the form of Ardhanarishvara. She sits on a lotus and rides a lion, holding a discus, conch, mace and lotus in her four hands. Gods, sages and ordinary devotees all worship her. The fruit of all nine days of worship is considered complete on this day.
How to do the puja
Offer sesame seeds as bhog. Many families prepare halwa, puri and chana as prasad today and perform Kanya Pujan. Close Navratri with a havan, and break the fast the following day.
Mantra
ॐ देवी सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः
Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah
